Shields can be used with one-handed weapons to greatly improve blocking and parrying at the cost of movement speed and one inventory slot.
There are three types of shields:
- Round shields: moderate block and parry bonuses. Low 5% speed penalty.
- Buckler: high parry bonus, low block power and parry force. Low 5% speed penalty.
- Tower: high block bonus, but no parrying. High 10-20% speed penalty.
When fighting an enemy, you generally have the option to:
- Block: uses 10 stamina, lets some damage through, increases the player’s stagger meter.
- Parry: uses 20 stamina and causes the enemy to become staggered. To parry you must block right before (within 0.25s) the enemy’s attack lands.
- Dodge: uses 15*(gear speed penalty) stamina and prevents incoming damage.
